We had two visitors yesterday – a cub (not shown), and later, his mother. The cub came right up to our glass sliding doors in the family room and I think I was about 12 inches from him, separated by the doors of course. He was so cute! I managed to get my cell phone camera and video the momma bear. We got bears regularly at our old place, including a momma and three cubs on our deck on one occasion, but they always came at night. I don’t remember seeing a bear up close in our yard during the day. However, they enjoyed going through our trash, and we store food waste in our freezer until trash day. When we moved here, we optimistically put food waste in our food waste bin outside, and it got raided by bears within a few days. I guess they were making the rounds yesterday. Do you get bears where you live? My aunt in rural MA gets a lot of bears, but my parents in rural VA don’t get any.
No bears seen in northern Virginia. Supposedly one passed through our neighborhood last year before we live here. Lots of deer, rabbits and birds.
Daniel – There are bears in SW Virginia, but I never saw one . . . so I guess not many. But my dad has encountered bear hunters more than once on his rural cycles. Deers, rabbits and birds are nice, though I am tired of the deer eating my roses and tulips.
Uhhh DEFINITELY no bears. I’ve seen a coyote once or twice. Otherwise, if you want some big fat possums, yeah, we’ve got those.
Side note! You gave us a kids book years ago called “Possum Come A Knockin.” It’s usually Jose who sees a possum rummaging around the backyard at night before we go to bed, and I always joke that he might come a-knockin at the door. Hahahahaha.
We loved that book, but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a possum in my life. Do they really hang upside down?
I think they can? But I’ve never seen one upside down. I have seen one in a tree. But usually they’re skulking along the back fence.
