Last night was a bad night. Both L and B are sick, and I was up with them maybe 8 or 10 times. L ran a fever as high as 103, though it responded very quickly to Ibuprofen. I sincerely hope B does not run a fever like that. I find sickness so scary in tiny babies.

Despite the illness, we did manage to fulfill our primary objective – to cut down and put up our Christmas tree. Last year we bought a beautiful 8 foot tree. This year we were much more restrained and got a 6 foot tree. Last year’s tree was a struggle to cut down, a struggle to get onto the car, and a struggle to put up in our house. This year’s tree is not a beautiful as last year’s tree, but it is so much easier to deal with. Given that we have a small baby, a more modest tree was the right choice. Rainy conditions made the tree-selecting and cutting more challenging that it would have been. Oh Seattle. So much rain.

I decided to proceed with a quilt as a present. I completed 6 of the 14 blocks that the quilt requires. If I can do at least two a day, I’ll stay on schedule. I’m currently debating what kind of batting to use. Wool? So warm and fuzzy and lovely – but difficult to work with. Orient? Nice and drapey, but not so warm and not “natural.” Or I could try something new, like cotton. I’m torn. I do like a nice warm throw when I’m on the couch, which makes me lean towards wool. But it would be fun to try something new. I need to make up my mind, though, and order one or the other pronto.
