my worst moments

I am getting sick again.  Sore throat, headache, low grade fever, runny nose.  I cannot believe it.  We were hoping to go to the beach this weekend, but now I’m not sure it’s such a good idea.

Before WaPo and the NYT starting charging to view their papers, I might have been blissfully unaware of Miley Cyrus and her twerking.  I still read these two papers in incognito mode, but much less frequently than I used to.  Instead, I’ve started ready CNN every day, and stopping by more frequently.  I know there are other options – Irish Times, BBC, etc.  I was a CNN addict back in the early 2000s, after 9/11.  However, I’d stopped  reading it almost complete in the last 2 or 3 years.  I just became annoyed with how silly the news articles seemed.  Now, though, I’m back to reading it on an almost daily basis.  And, as such, I end up reading about MC twerking.

I’m not opposed to overly sexy dance in general.  There was a time when I might even have found twerking hot.  However, those times are over and now I can’t help but think of such things in the context of my daughter.  I have a visceral reaction of disgust to what I’ve seen of the Cyrus thing.  She’s having her teenage rebellion for the world to see.  I guess I should be glad no one was around with a video camera during my worst moments.  It’s not so much the dancing itself which is bothersome, it’s more the doing it up on stage for all the world to see, as opposed to say in a camera-free nightclub.

Well, last week when I was sick I tried to work through it without slowing down and ended up feeling like I was on death’s doorstep by day 4.  This time, I’m going to try and take it a bit easier.  I have to be at work this afternoon, but I’m going to stay home this morning and take it easy.  Maybe I’ll get better faster.
